And it’s still not finished!
But the classes have, so I'm on my own until September...

My classes have finished too. Beautiful scenery and flowers. Looks like there's going to be more rain - more flowers perhaps?

Hi Hausfrau,
it was the name above your comment at Fran's which brought me. Sheer curiosity.

I am one, a Hausfrau, even entitled to the title; I live in equally beautiful countryside, in the South Shropshire Hills and one of my most manic occupations is gardening.

I am short on flowers this year, the harsh winter has killed lots of shrubs and herbaceous plants here in the hills and the lack of water and early unseasonal warmth didn't help either.

In three weeks' time I am going to open my garden. Help.

Welcome Friko! What brought you to Shropshire? My girls think Kinder Kirche, kuche about sums me up - and even husband refers to me as 'the German' - I was born there...
Sorry to hear about your garden. Perhaps you too are now getting plenty of rain? I have a church fete to run on Friday and am equally panicy! I think the standard answer to your problem is to buy some annuals/bedding plants (too late to sow clearly), but I always prefer to spend my cash on perennials/shrubs though I'd be checking out the fetes and markets rather than the garden centres... Or you could try ornaments?! Of the useful variety? wigwams in rustic form or purchased.. Are there other gardens opening too?

It's been so hot here so early I'm already a bit tired of all the watering. In a bit of a panic to leave it all for a week for our London trip but my daughter is taking care of everything while we're gone (and she seemed to be giving my almost her full attention last night when I was explaining everything to her!) Sorry you've all been having flower issues!

So when are you actually coming I'm Crayon? Is it too late to do you that list of things to do?!

We're getting in this Saturday. So excited! You are so sweet to offer a "things to do" list. I think we already need to stay a few months to do everything we want to! Do you have an absolutely favorite restaurant that we should try?

How exciting! Does that mean you caught the Trooping of the Colour? I'm sorry it's too late to do a list but I'm quite sure you'll find plenty to do and indeed have to come again! I've lived away from London too long to recommend a restaurant, I'm afraid, we tend to take pot luck, but we went to the York and Albany (02073883344) for a family lunch in NW1 and thought it excellent - if you were visiting Camden Market for instance. And you're bound to find somewhere good around Covent Garden as there are lots to choose from and the whole place really buzzes. Make sure you go on the tube, but also walk, and go somewhere in a taxi for the hell of it! Have a wonderful week and hope you tell us all about your impressions later.
